Andrew Alkenbrack

General Manager

Andrew has been an integral part of Cabot’s success, helping establish Cabot Cape Breton as a world-class golf resort. Andrew oversees the golf and resort operations, leading a team of nearly 500 people in-season to deliver the best-in-class experience guests have come to expect, while also overseeing luxury real estate sales on the property.

Prior to joining Cabot, Alkenbrack held management positions with Oliver & Bonacini, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and Aman Resorts both in Canada and abroad. His rigorous training, exacting attention to detail and exceptional ability to connect with guests has helped transform Cabot from a beautiful vacation destination to an unforgettable experience.

Jennifer Alkenbrack

CFO

Jennifer is a Chartered Accountant and joined the Cabot team as CFO in 2014.  Jenn leads Cabot’s accounting and finance and supports investor relations. Her keen sense of the operations and sound business judgment make her a key contributor to the overall direction of Cabot, ensuring the organizations path of continuous improvement and excellence. 

Previously, Alkenbrack worked as an Audit Manager across a wide range of industries during tenures with PwC Halifax and KPMG Australia.

Jennifer graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University.

Simon Cooper

Special Advisor

Simon brings his extensive experience in hospitality where his focus is on advising Cabot’s executive team on our global expansion projects. In 2015 he created “Simon Cooper & Associates” and is currently consulting on a number of luxury hospitality projects, both in the United States and internationally. Cooper’s previous positions have included President & Managing Director, Marriott Asia Pacific and a decade-long role as the President and Chief Operating Officer for The Ritz‐Carlton Hotel Company. Cooper has served as Chairman of the Board of Governors for the University of Guelph, Trustee of the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association and Director of the Canadian Tourism Commission. In 2008, Mr. Cooper was named “Corporate Hotelier of the World” by HOTELS magazine.

Cooper holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.

Ben Cowan-Dewar

Founder & CEO

Cowan-Dewar, Co-founder and CEO of Cabot and recipient of Canada’s prestigious Top 40 under 40 award, is credited for his growing business success, and also for his role in revitalizing the economy in a region of rural Nova Scotia.

Along with business partner Mike Keiser, Cowan-Dewar developed Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs, both named among the World’s Top 50 golf courses. Cowan-Dewar recently expanded the Cabot brand with the ground-breaking of Cabot Saint Lucia, a masterplan resort community in the Caribbean. This property will include Cabot’s fourth golf course and second resort in its expanding portfolio of world-class properties.

In February 2017, the Governor in Council appointed Cowan-Dewar as the Chair of the Crown corporation Destination Canada. Cowan-Dewar is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by Governor General David Johnston in June 2017.

Jules Cowan-Dewar

VP, Sales & Marketing

Jules oversees advertising, branding, public relations and communications across all of Cabot’s global properties. With a history of revenue-driven results, Cowan-Dewar brings over ten years of marketing and brand management expertise on both the brand- and agency-side of the business. Most recently, she served as the Vice President of Marketing at Canadian retail giant Indigo during the brand’s successful expansion within Canada and into the United States.

Jules holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto.

Daniel Knight

Director, Development

Daniel plays a key role in identifying and assessing new business opportunities, helping Cabot continue to refine its resort operating model, and supporting Cabot’s growth plans in North America and the Caribbean.

Previously, Daniel was at Bain & Company — a management consulting firm — where he worked on strategy, operational improvement, and customer experience projects for private equity, financial services, and retail clients. His professional experience also includes a role at Method, a digital design firm.

Daniel holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Ken Purdy

CCO

In addition to supporting existing operations, Ken bring his vast experience in business development, strategy and hospitality to Cabot’s growth initiatives, including the expansion of Cabot Cape Breton, Cabot Saint Lucia and other projects. 

Purdy was Vice President, Corporate Development for InnVest REIT, then Canada’s largest publicly-traded owner of hotels and subsequently consulted for a variety of businesses including Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Ken also held roles at CIBC World Markets and The Boston Consulting Group.   

He received a B. Math. from University of Waterloo and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Allan Scoler

VP, Development & Construction

Responsible for the development and construction of new builds, conversions, and renovations, Allan brings a clear design vision to all of Cabot’s projects. 

Scoler joined Cabot following a nearly 20-year career with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts where he was most recently Vice President, Design & Construction, based in their head office. Scoler led projects across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, many including a significant residential component. With a deep understanding of luxury hospitality, Scoler worked with owners to determine the look and feel of a project, and ensure its enduring quality and function.

Allan holds bachelor’s degrees in Science, Environmental Design, and Architecture, and a Master of Architecture from Yale University.

Malcolm Campbell

Executive Chef

As the Executive Chef at Cabot Cape Breton, Malcolm is responsible for the entire dining operation, from menu creation to plate presentation, ensuring that the dining experience at Cabot is second-to-none for each and every guest.

Prior to joining Cabot, Malcolm honed his skills at world-renowned establishments including The Ritz London in Piccadilly, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London and Auberge de l’Île Barbe in Lyon, France. In 2008, Chef Malcolm joined the team at The Bingham Hotel as Senior Sous Chef, helping the restaurant earn its first Michelin star.

Danielle Carriere

Director, Rooms

Danielle joined Cabot in 2017, bringing 15 years’ experience in the hospitality and golf industry with a focus on overseeing Front Office and Housekeeping operations for leading hotel brands across Canada. As Director of Rooms, she has continued to utilize her experience by creating exceptional brand standards to improve our overall guest experience at Cabot.

Danielle holds a Diploma in Global Tourism and Marketing from Medicine Hat College.

Crystal Graham

Director, Human Resources

Crystal is the Director of Human Resources at Cabot Cape Breton. In her role, she leads Workforce Planning & Talent Management, Payroll & Benefits Administration, Employee Engagement, Learning & Development, Employee Relations, and Health & Safety.  

She joined Cabot in 2015 after nearly 10 years of living and working in Toronto. She holds a Business Degree from St. Francis Xavier University and a post graduate diploma in Human Resources Management from Seneca College.

Jillian Janega-Connell

Director, Strategy & Planning

Since joining Cabot in 2017, Jill has played a key role in using data to improve both the employee and guest experiences. Jill is responsible for collecting and evaluating internal and external feedback and building strategic plans and processes that contribute to Cabot’s growth.

Jill holds a Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management from Cape Breton University, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Cape Breton University and an Advanced Diploma in Human Resources from NSCC.

Steven Moores

Director, Food & Beverage

Steven joined the Cabot team in early 2020 and oversees the front-of-house Food & Beverage operation, encompassing all outlets, at Cabot Cape Breton. Prior to joining Cabot, Steven worked in recognized restaurants throughout Toronto and as the Food & Beverage Manager and Wine Director at Fogo Island Inn.

Steven studied Culinary Management at George Brown College, followed by a 2-year apprenticeship in Hospitality Management with the Art Institute of Vancouver.

Ted Stonehouse

Director, Golf

Ted is a Class A Head Golf Professional with the PGA of Canada and was previously Director of Golf with Clovelly (St. John’s) & Bell Bay (Cape Breton). His experience includes hosting National Championships, the 2017 RBC PGA Scramble National Final and the Wayne Gretzky & Friends Invitational. Ted has been recognized as PGA of Canada National Club Professional of the Year, PGA Merchandiser of the Year and PGA Junior Leader of the Year.
