After
an era of modernist designs,
classic golf is once again de
rigeur, and no Canadian designer
embraces the classic principles
of golf course architecture
like Rod Whitman. Whitman’s
design ethos is respectful of
the setting, and desirous of
working with the land to create
the best golf course. Cabot
Links will be just such a layout,
playing to just under 7,000
yards and a par of 71 over a
rugged site between
the Gulf of St. Lawrence and
the town of Inverness, Nova
Scotia. The terrain is varied
and dramatic in the tradition
of the game’s great seaside
golf courses in the UK and Ireland,
and architect Rod Whitman has
devised a routing plan that
takes advantage of the landscape’s
most exciting properties. No
hole will play the same way
twice, and the conditions of
the day will dictate strategy.
Cabot Links will be golf in
its purest form, a classic take
on the game.
